Risavika Hydrogen Hub (RHH) has been granted NOK 300 000 by Innovation Norway under its Business Network subsidy program.

The RHH project is a strategic collaboration between NORCE, Lyse, and SEID, positioned to address the challenges in maturing new hydrogen technologies. It is facilitated by Energy Transition Norway as a cluster project.

RHH's holistic approach focuses on regional value creation, linking key factors such as H2, CO2, LNG, power, heat, and thermal energy to create a foundation for exporting products, services, and solutions with added value for Norway.

The hub will serve as a crucial test arena to accelerate the development and maturation of H2 technologies within circular value chains, and to foster connections from research and development to production and usage, involving researchers, entrepreneurs, SMEs, and large energy companies.

This approach is expected to generate positive societal impacts, with potential applications in areas such as hydrogen production, low-value CO2 recycling, industrial protein, chemicals, and sustainable fuel production.

A hub with unique potential

Risavika, situated in a highly active industrial area in Sola municipality just outside Stavanger, offers a unique potential to become a leading hub for hydrogen and circular economy development.

Leveraging existing investments in the region, including projects in biogas production, electrolysis for hydrogen production, and a unique gas pipeline, RHH aims to establish a comprehensive infrastructure for environmental technology and circular economy development.

Focusing on three circular value chains

The project further aims to create a permanent platform for industrial-scale testing and product use within three circular value chains:

1. Biogas/natural gas to hydrogen for land and marine transport

2. Hydrogen and CO2 to food/fish feed and biofuel/acetone

3. Development of new value chains for the use of by-products from hydrogen production as solid carbon for valuable products

RHH anticipates significant job creation, value addition, and export opportunities, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and solidifying Norway'sposition as a key player in hydrogen and circular economy initiatives.

The preliminary project will among other things outline conceptual design, market analysis and business plans, and will run for 6 months from 1st February 2024.
