Norway Energy Technology Platform, developed by TechnologyCatalogue.com and launched in Norway in collaboration with Energy Transition Norway, has emerged as a crucial player in reshaping the landscape of the energy industry.
CEO and co-founder Erik Nijveld has over 30 years of experience in the energy industry, 19 of whom have been with Shell. Recognizing the challenges faced by decision-makers in staying informed about technology-driven opportunities, he developed TechnologyCatalogue.com together with co-founder Vincent van Beusekom.
– The platform helps technology end users like Shell navigate the myriad of available technologies that exist out there and find the ones that are relevant to their specific needs, says Nijveld.
As of today, the platform contains 26 solutions from Norwegian suppliers. The total number of solutions on the platform is 752.
The 24/7 online match-making platform isn't only of value to the big players, however. The founders recently presented its many features to 20 technology providers in ETN’s eco-system.
Suppliers can utilize the platform to create visibility for their solutions 24/7 and generate high-quality leads. The inclusion of independent reviews from clients provides a crucial layer of transparency, ensuring a more accurate representation of each technology's capabilities.
According to Vincent, data suggests that some suppliers are already starting to cut back on their exhibition budget to spend it on the platform instead.
– The platform is growing steadily and is a very cost-efficient way to test the market early on. Suppliers can use it to look for investors and partners. Their technology is immediately visible to other users from global energy corporations, he explains.
Moreover, suppliers on the platform have the autonomy to update their technology pages, providing them with complete control over the information visible to potential customers and partners. To mitigate the tendency of providers to present an overly optimistic view of their technology, the platform incorporates a system of checks and balances through client reviews and references.
End users can utilize the platform to find, select, rank, and deploy the right technologies to improve business performance, including the use of filters to find technologies that are already deployed by other operators.
– You may use the filter search to find technology over a certain TRL level and choose to only see technology that has been deployed at least twice by your competitors. That way you can get recommendations or suggestions of technologies that might be relevant for you, explained Erik.
You may also “follow” technologies of special interest, either specific companies you find promising, or technology domains like for example ‘hydrogen’. Whenever there is a new technology added to your domain of interest, you'll get a weekly notification.
Moreover, end users that have a specific technical challenge, can use the global platform community to ask for advice from technology providers. If you post a challenge as an end user, you can start a conversation with the technology provider, or engineering firm that could help deliver the solution to your challenge.
Claire Richardson-Dissel, GM Technical at Norske Shell and the company’s representative in Energy Transition Norway’s technical committee, provided the following insight into Norske Shell's subscription to the platform:
– I think technology and innovation are important levers for achieving the energy transition, a challenge that we all have in common in our industry. The technology catalog platform brings a transparent overview of what technology is available and what has been deployed successfully externally in a very user-friendly and intuitive way.
CEO of Energy Transition Norway, Egil Aanestad, reflects on more than 30 years of leadership experience in the energy supplier industry.
– We were not able to develop all the technology in-house, and therefore spent considerable time identifying new associated technologies. I believe the Norway Technology Platform will be of value to our members, and that’s why ETN is supporting the launch of this platform in Norway and encouraging the suppliers in our network to make use of the opportunity to test it out for free for twelve months, he says.
In conclusion, Norway Technology Catalogue is not just a platform; it's a catalyst for innovation in the energy sector.
